Pig exhibiting at Tamworth Show
For the first time ever, Coonabarabran High School exhibited pigs. Richard and Heather Cole of Riverglen Berkshires donated a sow to the school last year. Fondly known as ‘Vicki’, she has grown into a fine example of the breed and is also in pig! The judge also was impressed with her as he awarded her Champion Berkshire of Tamworth Show. This was after she had won Champion sow, beating many other breeds including sows from Richard Coles’ stud. Her companion boar also did well in this class, achieving Reserve Champion! The three students, Daniel Oakes, Myles Teale-McEvoy and Simon Bouwsema, did a great job preparing and parading these pigs, no easy task when you have to wash and groom a pig. Thanks goes also to Mr Ken Horley and Mr Pieter Bouwsema, who also were there to transport, support and encourage the students (and the pigs!).
