On Thursday 27th march, the Coonabarabran High school team travelled to Gunnedah to play them in the 3rd round of the North West Knockout. Team members were Claire Bennell lead, Kassandra Wilson as second and Tim Wilkinson as skip. As can be seen from the scorecard the game ebbed and flowed with Coonabarabran getting the upper hand midway through the game. However, Gunnedah with their state champion as skip soon pulled back and opened up a very comfortable lead of ten shots with 4 ends to play. The Coonabarabran bowlers refused to lie down and accept defeat. The 18th end they picked up 3 shots, 19th end 4 shots and the 20th end another 2 shots. Coming into the last end, Coonabarabran were only one shot down. During this end, Gunnedah were holding 4 shots until their skipper became too greedy and disturbed the head. Tim Wilkinson drove and displaced several of their bowls which gave us a shot. Next shot by Gunnedah missed its target and the scores were all tied up with Tim having to place his last bowl within 20 cm to win. Tim achieved this with utmost glee to give our team a very tense and exciting win by one shot. They are to be commended for the way they handled the great pressure and completed a one shot win with the last bowl.
