What the Dickens

A team of year ten girls has achieved third place in an Australian wide English competition. The Coonabarabran High School team consisted of Amelia Adam, Claire Bennell, Isabel Enks and Jessica Staniforth.

The Team participated in an online quiz, “What the Dickens”. The students competed against the clock and other teams from throughout Australia. The competition was conducted by the Western Australia English Teachers Association over three rounds and three consecutive weeks. Quiz questions drew on student’s knowledge of English, covering topics such as grammar, vocabulary, literature and so on. Teams needed to work collaboratively to solve the quiz questions in the shortest possible times.

In the Year 10 section of the competition there were 83 teams. These included teams from well known private schools as well as various public educational institutions.

The Coonabarabran High School team was only three points behind the winners from Christ Church Grammar School. In addition, the girls were only one point adrift of second placegetter, Perth Modern School.
