During National Science Week, Year 11 students ran a Spaghetti Bridge Building Competition. Students were invited to construct a bridge using 100grams of 1mm spaghetti and “super-glue”. The bridges were designed to span 500mm and be anchored at each end. Testing for strength was by mass held at the centre of the bridge. The competition attracted 11 entries from all years with many different designs being put to the test.
Overall winner was Alex Baglee from Year 8 with a 76.4g construction that held 3.5kg. A mention must be made to the Prugger clan for building and entering 3 bridges. Also to Mr Sharp for demonstrating that Maths is an important tool in Science and Engineering, but investigation provides the proof.
Well done to all who entered and keep those designs in mind for next year.
