NSW Combined High Schools' Athletic Championship

Six students travelled to the Sydney Athletics Centre at Homebush on Thursday and Friday last week (4th to 6th September) to represent their school and the North West region.

Mr Sharp described the wet and windy conditions as the worst that he had experienced in his capacity as a Combined High Schools executive organiser.  However, all of our North West athletes competed with distinction, demonstrating potential in the sport of athletics.

Jake McDonald (15 years) and Emma Kable (12 years) competed in their first Combined High Schools meet and achieved commendable results in the 100m sprint and long jump.  Jake with explosive acceleration faded at the finish to miss out on the finals and Emma achieved ninth place in the long jump.  Isobel Enks started poorly after being shuffled back, however she was able to move into eleventh place in the 800m.  She also achieved a commendable result in the 400m achieving the thirteenth fastest time.

Zoe Stephenson (17) and Kate Murphy (17) continued to represent both the school and North West with distinction.  They have both been excellent role models for junior athletes and great ambassadors for our school.  Zoe and Kate were members of the North West 4 x 400m relay team which finished fourth.  Zoe just missed out on bronze medals in both the 800m and 1500m, finishing fifth.  Kate also just missed out on medals achieving fourth place in the 400m final and fifth place in the 200m final.

Unfortunately it was a small team representing North West this year due to illness and injury.  Mr Enks looks forward to training commencing in Term 1 2009.
