Selected for NW Tennis

Maria Sharapova watch out, there's a new face making a racquet in the tennis world.

Imogen Morrissey, a Year 9 student at Coonabarabran High School is on a fast track to the top after being selected as part of the North West open girls' tennis team. This team of nine players will compete at the NSW Combined High Schools State Carnival in Gosford from September 9-11. The nine girls in the North West team were selected on merit from representatives aged below 19 years from High Schools throughout the whole of the North West Region. At the trials held recently in Gunnedah, each player was required to play

five games against the other contenders to determine both selection and rank. Each girl played more than 60 games on the day.

Morrissey was selected in the team as the number five ranked player. The 14-year-old is coached by Coonabarabran tennis stalwart David Macintosh.
