Coonabarabran High School took a large team of swimmers to Armidale on Monday to compete in the North West trials. Despite having to leave at 4:30 am the team was very successful with a number of swimmers qualifying to represent the North West region in the State titles to be held at Homebush Aquatic Centre in April. Some notable performances on the day came from Jacinta Hayes who qualified to represent North West in the 400m, 200m, 100m and 50m freestyle and Emma Kable who qualified in both the 50m freestyle and 100m breaststroke events. Coonabarabran High also sent a number of relay teams to the trials, of these teams nine qualified for the state titles. This is an outstanding result for all swimmers, as they must finish in the first three in their event in order to be selected in their team. Congratulations to all those who competed on the day and good luck to the team in Sydney. The team would also like to thank Vicki Hayes, who acted as manager on the day of the carnival, for her help and encouragement.
