Vivian Evans, 'Canteen Innovator of the Year'

Congratulations Viv Evans!!!

Viv has just been awarded the title of ‘Canteen Innovator of the Year’ by the NSW Healthy Kids School Canteen Association. This was a NSW wide competition and highlights the initiative and dedication Viv has put into her voluntary role of Canteen Co-ordinator for Coonabarabran High School.

Viv has been awarded this honour due to her innovative and creative use of technology, particularly by developing the canteen website, http://coonahighcanteen.wikispaces.com This website is interactive and allows collaboration with and contribution from others. In addition, Viv has encouraged the use of email for instant communication and developed systems and policies which allow the smooth running of our canteen.

The P&C is very proud of Viv and wishes to acknowledge her wonderful hard work. Our thanks go to you Viv and congratulations for this well deserved recognition.

The Canteen Subcommittee is currently working toward regular consultation with the student body, through the SRC and the staff, through Executive meetings to achieve a holistic approach. Our aim is to ensure that provision of food through the Canteen is meeting the considered healthy suggestions from students while at the same time supporting the health messages taught in the classroom. All suggestions will be duly considered, so long as they fall within the guidelines of the ‘Fresh Tastes @ School Strategy’ and are financially realistic.

Bronwyn Stephenson, P & C President

Congratulations to Isabella

Earlier in the year the CHS Canteen committee hosted a Healthy Eating poster competition with all entries judged in a local competition. Local winners were rewarded with vouchers to spend at our canteen. All entries were then forwarded onto the State wide Healthy Kids Canteen competition, where they were judged independently.
We were delighted that Isabella was acknowledged with a Highly Commended Certificate by state judges. Obviously this was a big competition with many entries! Vivian Evans, CHS Canteen Committee Convenor, was delighted to present Isabella with her Highly Commended certificate at school assembly and thanked all students for their fabulous entries.
The CHS Canteen Committee are using all the posters to send out the healthy eating message across the school and you can see the posters on our Canteen website: http://coonahighcanteen.wikispaces.com/ and this website.
A big thankyou from the Canteen committee to all students and staff who continue to help us spread the Healthy Eating message.

Julie McGlashan—Canteen Supervisor

While Vivian Evans and the Canteen Committee have worked hard behind the scenes, Julie McGlashan has been working hard on the frontline in the Canteen, implementing the changes for the FreshTastes@SchoolStrategy.
Often without a volunteer to help, Julie continues to raise the bar with her delicious homemade meals. The students have responded well to the changes on the menu and this is being reflected in the profit the Canteen is now making for the P & C.
Please consider becoming a volunteer at Coona High canteen.  Call Julie at the Canteen on 6842 1904.
