Archaeology Visit
CAP initiative—Regional Networking HSIE
Macquarie University Ancient History teaching collection visited Coona High on 20/21 May, bringing with them many genuine ancient artefacts as well as models of swords & helmets.
Year 7 and 8 students showed a great deal of interest in Mr Karl Van Dyke’s talk on ancient warfare, especially when he used Mr Coe (teacher’s aide) as a Roman Soldier. They also donned white gloves to handle objects that were over 2000 years old. These included broaches, vases, pottery and many more.
Year 11 and 12 Ancient History students were given talks by Philippa Medcalf (author of many HSC textbooks) on Pompeii, our core topic for the HSC. Her talk included an array of archaeological evidence. Year 12 in particular enjoyed the lecture on Agrippina the Younger—the wife, mother and sister of Emperors.
