Supreme Champion Pig at Dubbo Show
Coonabarabran High School’s Berkshire sow was awarded the highest prize of Supreme Champion Pig at the Dubbo Show. Judge Neil Chad said she was a fine example of the breed and an excellent mother, doing a great job with her nine piglets. Her piglets travelled with her to the show and at 3 weeks of age, were a huge attraction for both young and old.
Riverglen Ann 83, or Vicki as she is more commonly known, was donated as a 5 month old gilt by her breeders Richard and Heather Cole of Riverglen Berkshires, Forbes. She has been living at the school ever since and gave birth to her first litter during the holidays. The sire of the litter is also been a resident of the school farm and is on loan from Richard Cole for the coming time.
Myles Teale-McEvoy and Simon Bouwsema did an excellent job at preparing and showing Vicki, who won her way through to the Supreme Champion level by beating the Large White Champion sow and a very large Tamworth boar. Considering it is only the second time Coonabarabran High School has shown pigs, this was a fantastic and exciting outcome. Well done and thankyou to all involved in looking after the pigs in the lead up to the show.
