Welcome to the webpage of the German Faculty!

In 2009, Coonabarabran High has made the change from French to German. Students at the school begin their studies of Languages Other Than English (LOTE) in year 8 with a compulsory 100hr programme. Since this is the first year that German has been taught at the school, there currently exists no German programme in the later years, however, I hope this will change in 2010.

The study of German, like any other foreign language, is important and will bring students many opportunities and much satisfaction. To date, German is one of the official languages of the European Union (EU), and has a strong reputation as a language of culture and innovation. 100 million people recognise German as their first language and over 40 million people world-wide recognise German as their second language.

There exists many exchange opportunities for secondary students within rural Australia. Programmes normally have a duration of 3, 6, 9 or 12 months. I strongly encourage all students to take the leap into an exchange and learn not only a foreign language, but also a foreign culture and way of life. There are always Swiss, Austrian and German students wanting to come to Australia and if you are interested in hosting an exchange student, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
