To celebrate the International year of Astronomy the P&C held a Star Viewing evening on 4 April. This event was registered as part of the “100 Hours of Astronomy” from 3 to 5 April, an international project involving both amateur and professional astronomers to introduce members of the public to astronomy. Although initially not promising, the weather cleared and five telescopes were set up carefully avoiding the puddles. We were very fortunate to have a number of very experienced guides in Steve Lee, Amanda Weorit, Kevin Cooper, former pupil Dr Tim Connors and our own Jeff Nott. Our thanks go to them and especially to Mr Nott for all his preparation work including blacking out the food tech room windows so well. The many participants enjoyed sharing their time between admiring the view through the telescopes and wandering inside for refreshments.
Thank you to all those who took part and to those who provided the food and to Fred Watson and the Exploratory at Siding Spring for providing the lucky door prizes
